Grays Peak

When was the fun: Fall 2008
Who went: Mark, Kathleen, Tim, and Dolly
Length or hike: 7.5 miles Roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 3,000 feet
Time on the trail: ~6 hours
Distance from Boulder: 1.5 hours
Adventure was near: Georgetown

This was a hike we did at the end of the '08 hiking season. The road up to the trail head was a sheet of ice but thankfully a man with a Jeep was daring enough to drive up it and give us a ride.

Soon after we starting hiking Dolly realized she forgot her jacket! We continued but eventually the cold caught up with her. After trying to keep her warm by putting her in a backpack, Tim and Dolly agreed they should stay in the warm valley and not continue on.

Kathleen and I continued up to the summit which was quite windy and decided against continuing on to Torreys Peak. On the way down we found a steep couloir to "butt sled" down.

As we approached the trailhead we once again saw the man with the Jeep and were fortunate enough to get a ride back to our car a few miles down the ice/dirt road.
