At 12:30 am the alarm was going off and this adventure was underway. After a quick breakfast of cereal in the kitchen we loaded up the car and headed for Longs Peak Trailhead. A little after 2 am we were on the trail. It was pitch black, and we used headlamps to find our way. After a few hours, we climbed through some fog and were greeted with a magnificent sky of stars.
We were well into the boulder field before the sun rose over a ridge and started to heat us up. Hedi was sick of being cold and quickly got to the top of the boulder field to get into the sunshine.
We made our way to the top of the boulder field and into the keyhole. Unlike other times I've been here the wind was not howling and we enjoyed the view through to glacier basin. Mom went beyond her goal of making it to the boulder field and we left her at the keyhole and continued on. By 10:00 am we were on the summit in warm sunshine!
