Sand Dunes 2010

When was the fun: May 29-31, 2010
Who went: Mark, Kathleen, Scott and Shanon
Length or hike: ~ 6 Miles to site, then short day hikes
Distance from Boulder: 5 hours
Adventure was near: Alamosa, CO

We did this 3 day trip over our Memorial day break. With all the crowds on this busy weekend we were a little bit aprehensive going to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. However, as soon as we left the area around the visitors center we also left most of the people. And by the time we were at our site, about 6 miles around the dunes, we barely saw anybody! Unlike the last time I was at the dunes, the creek was flowing with a significant flow rate and was a lot of fun to play in and watch how the water dramatically and quickly moves the sand and changes the landscape. Our days on the dunes were filled with hiking, relaxing, sun bathing, eating, and stick races on the creek.
